Based on our business development policies, conducted studies, and the designated strategies, RAK Company plans to expand its activities in a number of new areas. These expansions consist of three main sections:
- An expansion of our locomotive fleet by purchasing new ones. Moreover, they will be put to work in different regions.
- Establishment of a freight wagon maintenance and repair depot in order to provide different services to the proprietary wagons of saving fund Institute of Islamic Republic of Iran Railways and other companies.
- Establishment of a new locomotive maintenance and repair depot in order to provide different services to locomotives of other companies and newly acquired locomotives of our own in the near future.
According to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Vision Plan of 1404, the railways should be able to haul 30% of all cargo transportation by land. In order to overcome this milestone, cargo and traction fleet expansion are considered in this plan. Moreover, a considerable portion has been assigned to the private sector based on Article 44 of the Constitution. Based on this vision plan, about 813 new locomotives should enter the fleet, however, additional reviews have firmly suggested that reaching this milestone is rather far-fetched and this figure should be adjusted to 400 locomotives. In other words, a high volume of demands for locomotives is obvious from this figure.
Consequently, RAK Company, as an entity which possesses around 10% of freight transport share, intends to improve this figure to at least 40% over the next five years. Evidently, this milestone cannot be achieved unless there would be a substantial increase in the number of our operational locomotives.
Establishment of a freight wagon maintenance and repair depot
Currently, the subsidiary companies of saving fund Institute of the Islamic Republic of Iran Railways hold about 3100 units of various types of freight wagons. According to the existing railway maintenance and repair regulations, more than 1000 units of these wagons should undergo major repairs. It should be noted that these types of repairs are rather different from daily and special repairs. Based on several carried out studies, RAK Company intends to establish a freight wagon maintenance and repair depot in order to meet the demands of similar companies and take up a part of freight wagon maintenance and repair market. Moreover, we would like to make this site operational as soon as possible.
Establishment of a new locomotive maintenance and repair depot
Due to our plan of rapid fleet expansion and also the growth of the company’s share of locomotive maintenance and repair market, feasibility and establishment of a new locomotive maintenance and repair depot are in progress. In this regard, different areas and existing facilities are under consideration in order to select the most suitable location for the establishment of this new Depot.
